Windows 7 product key problem

I have windows 7 Professional oem (64bit)
The problem is: I can't activate it with my product key. I recently upgraded my cpu, mobo and ram. Then i formated my hard drive and installed the same windows on it, but now it doesn't let me activate it with my product key.

OEM copies can be reactivated on new motherboards (I've done it many times).

You have to go through the phone activation rather than the online activation.

Technically Microsoft are under no obligation to let you do this per the licence you agreed to, however I know they can often let users transfer licences as an act of goodwill
